Dr. Giligson completed all of his post secondary education in Vancouver at the University of British Columbia.
He was awarded his Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Microbiology in 1991 and completed Medical School at UBC in 1995.  He went directly into Ophthalmology and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Ophthalmology) in 2000.  He also completed his Diploma for the American Board of Ophthalmology in 2001 but has never practiced in the U.S.A.
He started his solo practice in North Delta in 2000 and has been operating at the Delta Hospital since 2001, doing mainly cataract surgeries there.  He is still affiliated with UBC and the department of Ophthalmology there and is currently an Associate Clinical Professor.  He was the the Undergraduate Program Director of Ophthalmology for the UBC Medical School from 2005-2010. He is currently the Director of The Residency Education Program. He also works three Fridays a month at the
Vancouver Hospital Ophthalmology Outpatient Department (Section E - Eye Care Center) supervising the Ophthalmology Resident Clinic.
He has previously done contract work as an ophthalmology consultant for the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons, the Insurance Corporation of BC (independant medical examiner), the Medical Services Plan of BC and occasional medicolegal work for private law firms.  He has never been a paid consultant to any pharmaceutical company or surgical equipment supplier.  He has served on the Executive of the BC Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons for 5 years including 2 terms as its president.
